Cuckoo Clock Wood Puzzle :
Build the Clock That Knows What Time It Is in Another World

Exposed brass gears. A steeply pitched roof with hand-assembled shingles. A carved balcony. A cuckoo bird that actually emerges from its door. And an enamel sign that reads: Fall Down the Rabbit Hole. This clock knows something the others don't.

There's a Bavarian cuckoo clock on your desk. You built every gear of it.

Most decorative clocks are bought. This one is assembled gear by gear, shingle by shingle, balcony spindle by spindle until a wooden bird pops out of a door you built yourself to announce an hour you get to decide.

The Cuckoo Clock Wood Puzzle is the most mechanically ambitious and the most visually distinctive kit in the collection. At difficulty level 5/5, it's the one that separates builders who have done this before from builders who want to see what they're actually capable of.

The result a Bavarian cuckoo clock with exposed steampunk gear mechanism, multi-color finish, and a working cuckoo bird is the kind of object that sits on a desk and makes everyone who sees it ask two questions: where did you get that? and does the bird come out?

The facade and timbered frame. The main body of the clock is built in the Bavarian chalet style horizontal timber framing, plaster-effect infill panels, the specific proportions that make a cuckoo clock immediately recognizable from any angle. The multi-color finish (brown, green, beige, red) is applied to the pre-cut pieces before assembly, giving the finished model its hand-painted folk art quality without requiring any painting from you.

The steeply pitched roof. The roof is the defining architectural element, its steep angle is not decorative but functional in the original: snow slides off rather than accumulating. Here, it's assembled from individual laser-cut shingle sections that build up in overlapping rows, exactly like real wooden shingles. It's one of the most meditative assembly sequences in the kit : repetitive, precise, and deeply satisfying.

The carved balcony. A wrap-around balcony with turned wooden spindles and carved railing detail sits at mid-height. In traditional cuckoo clocks, the balcony is where the bird would sometimes perch between calls. Here it's the architectural mid-point that gives the whole model its horizontal breathing room between the busy ground level and the busy roofline.

The exposed gear mechanism. The steampunk heart of the kit. A central decorative gear assembly multiple interlocking wheels of different diameters, in the warm copper-brown tones of aged brass is visible through and around the main clock face. It's the element that says: this clock doesn't hide how it works. It celebrates the mechanism as the ornament.

The cuckoo bird and its door. The bird is assembled as a separate piece : wings, body, beak and installed in the dormer mechanism above the main clock face. The door opens. The bird emerges. It does not call on the hour because this is a decorative model, not a functional timepiece but the door and bird are fully present, fully positioned, and the mechanism that holds them in place is assembled by hand during the build. When you push the door open, the bird appears. Every time, it's satisfying.

The clock face. A round clock face with hands sits at the center of the facade, the calm center of all the surrounding mechanical and architectural detail. The hands are set at whatever time you choose when you place them. That's the one decision the clock leaves entirely to you.

The "Fall Down the Rabbit Hole" sign. A small enamel-style sign hangs from the balcony or base of the clock. It's the detail that tips this from a folk craft reproduction into something with a point of view. This clock is not purely about tradition. It's about what tradition opens onto the door in the familiar object that leads somewhere unexpected.
