A Little About Japanese Onsen

In Japan, an onsen (温泉) is a natural hot spring. Thanks to the country's volcanic landscape, hot springs can be found in many parts of Japan and have been part of Japanese bathing culture for centuries.

Visiting an onsen is often about taking a break, enjoying the warm water and simply slowing down for a while. Some traditional Japanese inns, known as ryokan, are built around hot springs and combine bathing with food, hospitality and traditional architecture.

That atmosphere is what inspired the Onsen Saga. From the layered roofs and wooden structure to the lanterns and red details, the miniature brings together many of the elements you might associate with a traditional Japanese bathhouse.
