The first time you read about a magical school hidden inside a castle with its moving staircases, its torchlit dungeons, its common rooms carved from stone and filled with the smell of old parchment you started building a room in your head. Maybe it had deep green tapestries and silver candlesticks. Maybe the shelves were crowded with potions labeled in faded ink, and the desks were buried under unfinished spellwork and half-translated scrolls. Maybe there was a second level, a gallery above the main floor, where the older students sat in the low light and pretended not to be listening.

This book nook is not an officially licensed Harry Potter product. But if you look at it really look at it you will feel something very familiar.

The deep teal and dark green that dominate the outer panel are the exact tones of Slytherin house: cool, composed, older than the institution they belong to. The gold accents the frames, the lamp, the decorative metalwork on the upper balcony bring the warmth that keeps the space from feeling cold. The stone arches inside evoke the dungeon architecture of the Slytherin common room, which sits below the lake and admits only the grey-green light of deep water. And the witch on the panel, hat low, robes open, potion in hand she is not Gryffindor. She has never been Gryffindor.

She is the student who stayed in the library when everyone else went to Hogsmeade. Who understood, early, that knowledge kept is more powerful than knowledge shared. Who annotated every textbook and never showed anyone her notes.
